Whereas, The University of Alaska's mission statement reads, "The University of Alaska inspires learning, and advences and disseminates knowledge though teching, research, and public service, emphasizing the North and its diverse peoples." (Regents' Policy 10.01.01); Whereas, The mission of the Office of Multicultural Affairs and Diversity (OMAD) is to promote a tolerant, caring society by providing effective culturally sensitive educational opportunities for students, staff, and faculty of the University of Alaska Fairbanks;

Whereas, The Elections Manual Review Committee is doing valuable work, but has minimal time; now, therefore be it Resolved, That they continue to meet at the discretion of the Chair until the end of the fall semester of 2006.

Whereas, It is unfair to move to close debate immediately after a motion to close debate has failed; now, therefore be it Resolved, that rule 9.9 be amended to read Rule 9.9 Close Debate -- Rule 7.7 (a) SAMPLE: "I move to close debate." (b) A two-thirds vote is required for adoption. (c) One may not debate and then immediately move to close debate. (d) One may not move to close debate immediately following a failed motion to close debate. (e) The motion to close debate takes precedence of all debatable motions. (f) The motion is not debatable. (g) The motion is not amendable.

Whereas, President Hamilton is of the opinion that textbooks play a large role in the affordability of an education; Whereas, Multiple students may be unable to afford the cost of taking various classes largely due to the economic impact of the cost of textbooks; Whereas, The university library would be able to become a more competitive institution through the possession of additional texts;

Whereas, the costs of being a student at the University of Alaska have consistently increased, semester after semester, and Whereas, a primary source of income for many students is the student employment program offered by the University, and Whereas, the wages provided by this program have not increased in a manner at all consistent with the cost increases, and Whereas, a full year of working 20 hours per week at the highest student wage-grade will, barely cover the costs of a single semester for most students, now therefore be it

Whereas, The Senate Chair has two employees; and Whereas, The Rules only allow employees of ASUAF to be directed through the President; now, therefore be it Resolved, That the rules of procedure be amended in the following manner: Rule 3.3(b)(3) to read "Any employee of the President through the President;" and Rule 3.3(b)(4) to be inserted reading "Any employee of the Senate Chair through the Senate Chair;"

Whereas, TVC has threatened to discontinue its portion of the funding of the Saturday shuttle; Whereas, Many students use the Saturday shuttle service; Whereas, The Saturday shuttle is generally more convenient and more reliable for students than the MACS bus system; Whereas, Since students already pay for the UAF shuttles with student fees, they do not have to pay an additional fee to ride; and Whereas, The MACS system charges passengers for part of the year; now, therefore be it
