Whereas, Students of the University of Alaska Fairbanks should not be required to pay fees by the administration or its departments if a fee can not be fully justified by that department; Whereas, Such and unjustified fee would be any of those that are imposed without offering an increase of services to the students of this University or that exceeded the amount that is normally collected at schools of comparable standing without strong reasons supporting such an amount;

Whereas, The Faculty Senate approved a change in the structure of the Associate of Arts Degree requirements to state the following: The curriculum of the Associate of the Arts degree consists of all courses required to meet the University of Alaska Fairbanks baccalaureate core, with the following exceptions: 1. The upper division writing and oral intensive courses are not required. 2. Whereas, The University of Alaska Fairbanks has placed as one of its goals in strategic planning “student success,” and this goal is endorsed by both the Faculty Senate and Staff Council; Whereas, The first step after setting any goal is to clarify both where your organization is and where you want it to be; Whereas, Discovering where UAF stands could be done through a survey looking at student participation in programs and activities that this institution provides for their learning and personal development of the student body;

Whereas, Committees have the power to recommend adoption or rejection of legislation; Whereas, Committees also have the ability to make no recommendation; Whereas, Committees often enough wish to refer their legislation to another committee; and Whereas, The Senate has the free will not to follow the committee's recommendation; now, therefore be it Resolved, That rule 5.3.a.3 be amended to read (3) The recommendation of the committee is (a) To adopt if a majority of the members recommend adoption; (b) To reject if a majority of the members recommend rejection;

Senate Resolution 167-008 Amending Rule 7.8

Whereas, Bylaw 021.2 prohibits Senators from voting on any motion which would directly affect hir employment within ASUAF; and Whereas, This is not addressed in rule 7.8; now, therefore be it Resolved, That the following rule be added 7.8.d Rule 7.8 shall not be used to intentionally or unintentionally allow a Senator to violate bylaw 021.2.
