Whereas, Students of the University of Alaska Fairbanks should not be required to pay fees by the administration or its departments if a fee can not be fully justified by that department; Whereas, Such and unjustified fee would be any of those that are imposed without offering an increase of services to the students of this University or that exceeded the amount that is normally collected at schools of comparable standing without strong reasons supporting such an amount;

Whereas, It is respectful to give people credit for their ideas; Whereas, It is also appropriate to give people criticism for their ideas, when applicable; Whereas, The third line of legislation is one way to identify the contributer of ideas within the legislation; and Whereas, It is important to preserve the history of the Senate and Senators; now, therefore be it Resolved, That the following be inserted into the rules of procedure: 8.1.f No amendment is in order that would change the sponsor of the

Whereas, The Faculty Senate approved a change in the structure of the Associate of Arts Degree requirements to state the following: The curriculum of the Associate of the Arts degree consists of all courses required to meet the University of Alaska Fairbanks baccalaureate core, with the following exceptions: 1. The upper division writing and oral intensive courses are not required. 2. In place of the upper division ethics course a humanities or social science elective may be substituted And changes the breakdown of credits to the following:

Whereas, Board of Regents' Policy Part IX, Chapter VII, Part 4C states that "[s]tudent organizations registered with the university must agree in writing at the time of registration" to "use university business offices and practices for financial transactions;" Whereas, Several clubs and organizations maintain or have maintained off campus bank accounts for various reasons including, but not limited to, requirements made by national parental organizations, necessity for quick payment, desire for interest bearing accounts, or misunderstanding Board of Regents' Policy;

Whereas, Part of the Residence Life fee used to pay for a post office box for every student living in a residence life facility; Whereas, Residence Life chose to discontinue providing this service to students in order to use the $30 to instead pay for rising fuel costs; and Whereas, This was not well communicated to the students living on campus; now, therefore be it

Whereas, The University of Alaska Fairbanks has placed as one of its goals in strategic planning “student success,” and this goal is endorsed by both the Faculty Senate and Staff Council; Whereas, The first step after setting any goal is to clarify both where your organization is and where you want it to be; Whereas, Discovering where UAF stands could be done through a survey looking at student participation in programs and activities that this institution provides for their learning and personal development of the student body;

Whereas, The faculty of the University of Alaska Fairbanks have listed student success as their number one goal; Whereas, The relationship between students and the faculty is an important part of student success; Whereas, One part of this relationship is in faculty advising students on their academic program and progress; Whereas, The Academic Advising Department offers faculty training so that faculty members can give better and more complete advice to students; and

Whereas, The UAF Bookstore has implemented a program to reduce prices on UAF items for those who show school spirit on Fridays; Whereas, This makes it more likely that students will show pride in their school; and Whereas, This Association believes that increasing school pride is in the best interest of the student body; now, therefore be it Resolved, That the Associated Students support the efforts of the UAF Bookstore to provide students with merchandise that reflects pride in the University of Alaska Fairbanks; and be it further

Whereas, Committees have the power to recommend adoption or rejection of legislation; Whereas, Committees also have the ability to make no recommendation; Whereas, Committees often enough wish to refer their legislation to another committee; and Whereas, The Senate has the free will not to follow the committee's recommendation; now, therefore be it Resolved, That rule 5.3.a.3 be amended to read (3) The recommendation of the committee is (a) To adopt if a majority of the members recommend adoption; (b) To reject if a majority of the members recommend rejection;

Whereas, Bylaw 021.2 prohibits Senators from voting on any motion which would directly affect hir employment within ASUAF; and Whereas, This is not addressed in rule 7.8; now, therefore be it Resolved, That the following rule be added 7.8.d Rule 7.8 shall not be used to intentionally or unintentionally allow a Senator to violate bylaw 021.2.
