Whereas, UAF's support of renewable energy will convey to other state and federal institutions and to private enterprise that supporting and promoting the development of renewable energy technologies is responsible, forward-thinking, and necessary;

Whereas, There are no words to express the level of sorrow felt by many students, staff, and faculty at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, even those without a direct connection to the Virginia Tech campus; now therefore be it Resolved, That the Associated Students of the University of Alaska Fairbanks express their deepest condolences to the student body, staff, faculty and administration of Virginia Tech and all others affected by the recent tragedy; and be it further

Whereas, The Biosicences Research Building, or BIOS, is expected to be the next building constructed at the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus; and Whereas, This is the perfect opportunity for the University to take a proactive position in regards to energy efficiency; and Whereas, While BIOS is in the planning stages, it would be relatively easy to add in energy-efficient features, such as high-R insulation, heavy windows, and low-energy LED lighting; and energy-sufficient features, such as solar panels and wind-generators; now, therefore be it

Whereas, Parking at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is expensive; Whereas, The use of alternative fuels, such as ethanol or biodiesel, create fewer pollutants, allows less reliance on imported fuel supplies, and gives us greater use of our natural resources; and, Whereas, The use of vehicles that consume less fuel, such as gas-electric hybrids, is similarly beneficial; now therefore be it

Whereas, It is ethical and morally required to support equal work for equal pay; Whereas, ASUAF took a stand against a similar issue last year; Whereas, The Faculty Senate and Staff Council have passed similar resolutions both this year and last year; Whereas, The student body would directly and severely affected by the potential loss of highly qualified staff and faculty; and, ,Whereas, It will be significantly more difficult to attract similarly qualified staff and faculty in the future; now, therefore be it

Whereas, Lance Mackey made history this year by becoming the first team to win the Yukon Quest and the Iditarod dog-mushing races in the same season; and Whereas, Mackey, from Fairbanks, has set a wonderful example of success and determination to all Alaskans, including students of the University of Alaska Fairbanks; now, therefore be it Resolved, That the Associated Students of the University of Alaska Fairbanks congratulate Lance Mackey and his dogs on their record-breaking achievements in Alaska's two greatest races.

Whereas, The University of Alaska Fairbanks Rifle program is this year’s National Collegiate Athletics Association National Champion; Whereas, The Nanooks defeated the other programs at the competition solidly, with an air rifle score of 2354, a small bore score of 2308, and a cumulative total of 4662; Whereas, This is UAF’s most successful athletics program, and it brings substantial recognition to the campus and the community; and

Whereas, Chancellor Steve Jones, Professor Terrence Cole, and ASUAF President Emeritus and Director of the UAF Alumni Association Joe Hayes all attended the ASUAF Spring Rules Retreat on February 25, 2007 to share their insights, personal and institutional histories, and encouraging words with the ASUAF Student Government; now, therefore be it Resolved, That the ASUAF Student Government present to them this resolution of thanks for their support and encouragement of the Associated Students of the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Whereas, The University of Alaska has not increased the pay rates of student employees for several years; Whereas, In that time, both the State of Alaska and the United States Governments have raised their minimum wages; Whereas, The rate of inflation has significantly decreased the purchasing power of the constant pay rate, effectively resulting in a decrease in compensation; and Whereas, Most student employees are unable to pay even a significant portion of their university tuition and fees based on their student wages; now, therefore be it

Whereas, The Senate Chair may call a special Senate meeting; Whereas, The current term of the Senate Chair ends on June 30th; Whereas, That leaves the Senate Chair-less for half of the summer; and Whereas, Chair are, for the most part, a good thing to have; now, therefore be it Resolved, That the following Rule be amended: 2.2.a The Senate Chair serves for a term beginning immediately upon election and ending at the calling of the first meeting of the next academic year.
