What does UAF Recycle
- Aluminum Cans - ASUAF has been recycling aluminum for years now, and every little bit helps! There are over 90 locations on campus for aluminum recycling. C&R Pipe, a local company, picks up our aluminum and pays us 26 cents/lb. for it. All the proceeds come directly back to the students.
- Plastic Bags - Local Food Banks reuse plastic grocery bags to give supplies to those who are needy in our area. UAF helps by donating its used plastic bags to these local organizations. These are collected in some of our aluminum bins which have a separate triangular receptacle which is specifically labeled “Grocery Bags”. If you have quite a few bags you can always drop them by our office or call for us to pick them up (see Contact Us).
- Print Cartridges - ASUAF currently sends used print cartridges to Cartridge World, a local business that refills used printer cartridges so they can be used again. ASUAF in turn recieves payment from Cartridge World. There are bins for cartridges in almost every office building on campus, and even off campus, in the form of rectangular blue Rubbermaid tubs with the ASUAF Recycling label on them. To find out where the nearest bin is give us a call or an email (see Contact Us).
- Styrofoam Packing Material - Styrofoam can be dropped off at the ASUAF Recycling desk, located at the back of Wood Center. We accept packing peanuts, flexible foam sheets, bubble wrap, or most any kind of packing except molded block Styrofoam packing.
- Batteries - Although this is not a "Recycling" effort, it is still environmentally minded. Batteries are extremely harmful to the environment and disposing of them correctly is key! Batteries can be put into the same rectangular blue Rubbermaid tubs used for printer cartridge collections.
You can find the bin nearest to you by looking at our Bin Locations page.
