Call to Order

The ASUAF senate was called to order at 4:03 PM on Sunday, January 31st by Senate Chair Joshua Luther in the Alumni Lounge of Constitution Hall. Also Present were President Todd Vorisek, and Vice President Jay Leonard.

Oath of Office- Nathan Helms, Jesse Cervin, Zachary Meyers, and David Apperson took the oath of office for their elected positions of senator.

Roll Call

Present were Senators Bole, Caulfield, Cunningham, Currey, Luther, Helms, Cervin, Meyers, Brown, Apperson, and Freitag.

Excused were Senators Duffy and Chambers

Introduction of Guests

Vice Chancellor Mike Sfraga- has some plans for ASUAF concerning Jerry from Ben and Jerry's.

Martin Klein- UAF staff council president, making himself available and observing.

RJ Mikulski- representative of APO concerning the Governor's cup in Anchorage.

Guest Remarks

Mike Sfraga- Jerry from Ben and Jerry's is going to come here hopefully to talk about sustainability. They have penciled him in for April 5th at Hering Auditorium. It will cost a lot, but the School of Management, and the School of Natural Resources and Programming, and the World Affairs Association have helped sponsor. He would like ASUAF to hold a panel with him to get conversation. He would like ASUAF to be instrumental because he wants students to be involved the most. He would like ASUAF to also help with the transportation and advertising logistics.

Martin Klein- There are some awards for staff through the UAF staff Council. He explained the structure of governance throughout the UA system. Next meeting is on Friday between 8:45-11:00am in the Wood Center Ballroom.

RJ Mikulski- Winter Carnival is coming up, and APO will be taking buses down to Anchorage for the Governor's cup. The Cup is on the 26th of February in Anchorage. He wants to know if ASUAF would like to help sponsor the trip.

Appointments

Monika Kunat for Elections board- Appointment was sent without objection to the University Relations Committee.

Jay Leonard for Vice President- Appointment was sent without objection to the University Relations Committee.

Mira Wilhelm for Senator- Appointment was sent without objection to the University Relations Committee.

Approval of Minutes

173-M- Senator Freitag motioned to table the minutes until the next meeting, Senator Currey seconded the motion.

Officer Reports

Senate Chair- Senator Joshua Luther- claimed 8 hours for last week, meetings will be in the Alumni lounge for the rest of the year. Director Carvajal wanted everyone to check their emails regarding the Juneau trip. The dance went well as far as he can guess.

President- Todd Vorisek- he has formed the group Help Haiti, to help fundraise for Help Haiti. The people involved in the group all decided that Todd Vorisek and David Spencer should be able to control the bank account for the organization. He also wants people to send any good people for senate his way. He calimed 20 hours this week.

Vice President Jay Leonard- Some changes are being made to club council. Club officers have to undergo officer training because SAO doesn't feel there is enough participation. More suggestions are welcomed. Accredidation committee is looking at ways to imporove the University and judge the university on their own merits. He claimed 20 hours this week.

For the Good of the Senate

Senate Chair Luther wants people to put their schedule up as well as their office hours. He also wants committee preferences.

President Todd Vorisek has declared that he has been chosen as Treasurer and him and Spencer will have control of the bank account. He wants the senate to produce a Resolution backing the graduate student governance body. He also mentioned that there should be a new appointment to the Parking services committee. Senator Apperson expressed interest.

Mira Wilhelm and Sophia Grzeskowiak-Amezquita introduced themselves as students interested in becoming senators.

Committee Reports

Student Affairs Committee- Senator Jamal Brown- wants to get more involved with the graduate students, and get more involved with students and at sporting events. There are ideas from last semester that they will work on for this semester.

University Relations Committee- Senator Michael Caulfield- will work on the Ben and Jerry deal. they would like to work on getting a roaming senate and more communication with TVC. They also deal with committee and other appointments. They will also be involved with the UA president search.

Public Relations Committee- Senator Sara Cunningham- Hasn't met yet. What they do is try and get in touch with students through a more media base. The senator elaborated on the Juneau trip with the help of Senate Chair Luther.

SRC Board- Senator Jamal Brown- There needs to be someone elected to the SRC board from the senate that preferrably uses the SRC. The next meeting is February 15th. The board is making changes to equipment and needs student input.

RHA (Residence Hall Association)- Senator Mari Freitag-RHA is going to change some things and will meet every week at 9:00PM on Tuesdays in the MBS Hess Rec center.

RISE committee- Director Golub- Director Golub elaborated on the nature of the Committee, and explained the fee. There will be some employees hired this month to help lead projects for sustainability. Looking to partner with some projects like glass crushing since Eilson has a glass crusher. Wants to replace bulbs around campus with LED lights to help save energy. He's going to be working on recycling more as well. Special Orders

Elections Board Nominations are open- nominations should be sent to the Senate Chair Josh Luther.

SRC Board Nominations- Senator Freitag nominated Senator Apperson and he accepted. Senator Cunningham nominated herself and she accepted. Without objection, Senator Apperson will be the student representative to the SRC board, and Senator Cunningham with be the senate representative to the SRC board.

Senator Caulfield moved to expedite the confirmation of Jay Leonard as Vice President. Senator Apperson seconded the motion. With no objection he is confirmed as Vice President. He took the Oath of Office.

Senator Caulfield moved to cancel next week's meeting. Senator Apperson seconded. With no objection the meeting was cancelled.

The Senate meeting was adjourned at 5:20pm.
