Whereas, There were numerous problems with the UAF online bookstore this semester;

Whereas, Students expressed their displeasure with the online bookstore during the ASUAF special election;

Whereas, Students who had to wait for financial aid had no books during the first weeks of the semester;

Whereas, Students who registered late or were waitlisted for classes also did not have their books;

Whereas, Even the students who ordered their books on time waited for over a month for their books to arrive in some cases;

Whereas, Shipping to Alaska is often a problem;

Whereas, Problems with shipping should have been anticipated when the bookstore made the switch to the online format;

Whereas, Paying for expedited shipping can add considerably to the price of books for students;

Whereas, Having books available in an electronic format would help students avoid these problems;

Whereas, The implementation of a consolidator, such as OneStop, would reduce the shipping time of standard shipping by 4-5 days;

Whereas, Having a hydrid bookstore that supplies readopted core class textbooks would make transition to college easier;

Whereas, Having a copy or sample chapters of the textbooks available in the bookstore on campus would allow students access to course material immediately;

Whereas, Representatives from UAF and from Follett made many of the preceding suggestions; and

Whereas, These representatives also stated that one or more of these changes would be made by the beginning of the 2009 fall semester; now therefore be it

Resolved, That ASUAF supports the implementation of one or more of these changes by the 2009 Fall Semester; be it further

Resolved, That ASUAF elect a senator to serve as a liason to the bookstore to ensure one or more of these changes be made in the timeframe suggested by representatives from the bookstore; and be it further
