Whereas, H.R. 4789 "The Performance Rights Act" would imposes an unfair performance tax on the student run media (KSUA);
Whereas, The financial burden presented by H.R. 4789 would be filtered down to the students of ASUAF;
Whereas, This resolution not only affects the student radio station (KSUA) but it also seriously affects the rural, non-commercial, and commercial stations in Alaska and across the country; and
Whereas, The Local Radio Freedom Act opposes H.R. 4789 by stating that "Congress should not impose any new performance fee, tax, royalty, or other charge relating to the public performance of sound airings on a local radio station for broadcasting sound recordings over the air."; now therefore be it
Resolved, That ASUAF supports student-operated media; and be it further
Resolved, That ASUAF is against H.R. 4789 "The Performance Rights Tax" and is in favor of the "Local Radio Freedom Act."
